New Solar PV Installation in Whitstable

CT5 - Time is of the essence, and this trumps price, because we HAVE to guarantee qualifying for the 11th Dec deadline for the high value tariffs. We had an energy survey over 6 weeks ago by Nationwide Energy and they have let us down in not yet sending their report – hence the rushed job. Because of the somewhat suboptimal orientation of the main roofs it appears that we would probably actually make a LOSS at a FIT of 21p on any installation, and thus we will only go ahead if we can get the higher tariff. We understand that energy efficiency requirements for FIT approval are not yet in force, but the Nationwide Energy surveyor did tell us orally that there was nothing needed: our house was up to standard, and he also indicated that he would probably recommend the E roof as the basis for a solar installation, which corroborates our deliberations below. Anyway, I have chased him today for the survey. All our roofs are about 40deg pitch, and all those we are considering using are unshaded. We have quite extensive E (azimuth ~ 80deg) and W (~ 260deg) facing roofs: these are chisel-shaped roofs typical of roofs on semis. The base length of each is about 780cm and it seems to us that we might get a reasonably sized installation on the E roof alone. We have not decided whether to go for just the maximum we could get on the S + E roofs or go for a further panels on the very slightly less well orientated W roof too, to the maximum of 4KW that that attracts the good rate, but are increasingly veering towards the latter. Our house is a two-storey semi – the Southern member of a pair on a N/S road, and our South facing roof is a small triangular (azimuth ~ 170deg) with width at base about 570cm which would appear to be capable of supporting 3 panels of typical size. but we are wondering if we could include this roof whatever or would the increased installation costs outweigh the advantage of having just a few of our panels S rather than E facing? I can email annotated photographs of the house to clarify this and other matters. Our E and S roofs could be accessed by standard scaffolding: the W wall of the house has a flat roofed single storey extension (NOT a conservatory!) protruding from it which may have operational and cost implications. We have ample onsite and roadside parking. We are not in a conservation area. We have cash available. We do understand that a contractual completion date in time for the Dec 11th deadline will have to be reflected in the price.
