50kwp roof and ground mount in addition to farming this client operates and exclusive luxary holiday lodge business. utilising both ground and roof mounted arrays, our client required us to install a 50kwp system which would produce in excess of 40,000 kwh's per year and supply the holiday lodges and associated services, substanntially offsetting his energy costs. with limited area, the ground array utilised 120 x 245wp solar modules in 9 ows with a design output of 29.4kwp. this was connected with a further 78 x 245wp solar module which were installed on the roof of an adjacent agricultural building to provide a total output of 48.51kwp. a separate 4kwp system was then installed on the roof of an adjacent domestic property.
Poultry shed this client has a substantial free range egg production unit which is located in a shaded area and which has a roof orientation unsuitable for mounting a solar pv array. to mitigate against the increasing cost of energy we installed 172 x 245wp solar modules on the roof of a cattle shed providing an output of 42.14kwp. to support the array we used our “double grid” design which ensures that the majority of the static load is transferred directly into the steel portal rafters and not taken by the wooden purlins. as the enterprise is supported by an auto start standby generator, the design and installation of our electrical installation is critical to ensure that the birds are not put at risk in the event of a service out event. in common with all of our agricultural installations the solar modules used have a guarantee of resistance to ammonia.
Domestic installation hereford this retired farmer required us to install a sub 4kwp solar array on the roof of his newly built farmhouse. he was particularly concerned with the method of securing the mounting rails to the rafters in his roof. he was aware that a common method of mounting involves drilling through the slates and using a stainless steel “hanger bolt” with a rubber sealing washer and silicone sealant. our method of removing a slate and fixing a stainless steel hook directly onto the rafter and then using a code 5 lead flashing to ensure the roof remains watertight gave him confidence that the integrity of his roof would not be compromised.
50kwp gloucester this project used 196 x 245wp solar modules mounted over a “big 6” fibre cement roof to provide an installed capacity of 48.02kwp. the system incorporated 3 x sma 3 phase inverters connected through elster generation and export meters. to meet the requirements of both the maximum anticipated static and dynamic roof loadings we used our classic “double grid” aluminium support structure. our client independently negotiated a power purchase agreement with his energy supplier to “buy back” his excess generation at an advantageous rate
10kwp mid wales this client had a single phase supply onto the farm and required us to install the largest solar pv array possible. negotiations with the distribution network operator resulted in approval for a 9.6kwp system using 48 x 200wp solar modules mounted on the south facing pitch of a re-roofed former grain store.
