Win a Solar PV System at Bristol Harbour Festival

By Katie Anderson on July 26, 2011

Festival organisers will be hoping the sun is shining this weekend, for one of the biggest free festivals in the UK, which will see visitors in with the chance to win a 4kW solar PV system.

Bristol Harbour Festival will be highlighting the uses of solar energy, with Your Power – a locally based solar installer and one of the festival’s sponsors – on hand to explain the benefits of the renewable technology.

Visitors to the festival will also have the chance to try and win a solar system to power their own household. Valued at around £12,000, the system could save a typical household £160 per year, as well as generating an additional income of around £1,300 annual via the Government’s feed-in tariff (Fit) scheme.

Specialising in the design, supply and installation of solar PV panels, Your Power has completed more than one hundred installations across Bristol, and representatives from the firm hope to encourage festival goers to consider using solar powered green technology in their homes.

Highlighting the benefits of solar technology in a fun and interactive way, visitors to Your Power’s stand will be able to try their hand at a solar-powered Wii game, with the day’s top scorer being awarded the console as a prize. An unusual solar powered cannon which relies on the power generated by sunlight to set it off, will also be on display.

The main festival weekend runs from Friday 29 July to Sunday 31 July. For more information go to www.bristolharbourfestival.co.uk

Did you know?

Earn Money via the Feed-In TarrifThe Government's Feed-In Tariff was launched on April 1st 2010 to encourage homeowners to generate their own electricity - it is split into two methods of revenue.

The Generation Tariff earns you a fixed income for every kilowatt hour of electricity you generate. And, The Export Tariff earns you income for every kilowatt hour you generate and sell back to the grid.

An average 3/4 bedroom house fitted with 2.5kw Solar PV panels and normal electricity usage would earn over £850 p/a tax free!

Add this to an approximate £145 reduction in your electricity usage and you could benefit by over £1,000 per year.
