New energy efficient homes will utilise solar thermal panels

By Laura Elahi on December 21, 2010

A new property development in Hounslow will provide green living to residents.

Worth £5.8 million the development offers 41 new energy efficient homes. Housing solutions specialist, Lovell, will build the homes to Level Four of the Code for Sustainable Homes standard, allowing tenants and owners to have reduced energy costs.

The four-storey build in Heston will include 19 homes for affordable rent, five for intermediate rent through Hounslow Homes and 17 properties for sale.

To ensure that the properties are the required 44 per cent energy efficient above current Building Regulations, solar thermal panels will be installed to the south-east and south-west facing roofs, which will provide hot water to each resident.

Bernadette O’Shea, chief executive of Hounslow Homes, said: “The partnership between Hounslow Homes, London Borough of Hounslow and Lovell to build 41 new, energy efficient and sustainable homes is exactly what the borough needs.

“These homes will reduce energy bills for future residents and provide much-needed homes in this area of the borough. We are thrilled to be a part of this project.”

Construction work on the year-long development is set to start in March 2011.

Did you know?

Earn Money via the Feed-In TarrifThe Government's Feed-In Tariff was launched on April 1st 2010 to encourage homeowners to generate their own electricity - it is split into two methods of revenue.

The Generation Tariff earns you a fixed income for every kilowatt hour of electricity you generate. And, The Export Tariff earns you income for every kilowatt hour you generate and sell back to the grid.

An average 3/4 bedroom house fitted with 2.5kw Solar PV panels and normal electricity usage would earn over £850 p/a tax free!

Add this to an approximate £145 reduction in your electricity usage and you could benefit by over £1,000 per year.
