New Solar PV Installation in Exmouth

Lympstone EX8 - I want to install panels on the south facing roof of my garage. The roof is about 9m by 4m, 30degrees from horizontal, due south facing. As you can see from google, it is unshaded in high summer, but the lower half is shaded in winter. I have been suggested various configurations: 5*2 panels (landscape). This would be almost 100% in sun and generate about 2.5kW. 5*3 panels (landscape). The lowest 5 panels would be quite often shaded, especially when sun is low. 8*2 panels (portrait). The lowest 8 panels would quite often be partly shaded, especially when sun is low. There is also the option of putting an additional panel on the smaller (carport) roof to the west. It is a single storey garage with tiles, 19 years old. Installation should be straightforward, no need for scaffolding. The only difficulty is that the garage is currently supplied from the house by a buried armoured cable about 30m long, 4mm^2 conductors. Of course it would be simpler to use this also to get the PV inverter power back to the house. I am not a qualified electrician but I have a Physics degree. A 2.5kW system is only 10A, which is less than the 13A rating of the power supply to the garage. I calculate that the power loss in 2.5kW along a 30m 4mm^2 cable is only 0.7%. There is perhaps a question of the two-way power flow, with main power normally from house to garage, but sometimes PV power flowing from garage to house down the same wire. As a physicist I think this is OK, but I can see it might upset the regulations about fitting Residual-Current Devices etc. Perhaps this cable limits the size of system? The bigger systems with ~16 panels might peak nearly at 4kW, which would have a 1.8% loss down a 4mm^2 cable. I do not know what the recommended maximum current down a buried 4mm^2 cable is.
EX8 - House roof approximately 12 solar panels in size, and south facing with sun all day.
