Staffordshire blue roof tiles
Can anyone suggest which type of drill bit to use on my Staffordshire Blu Roof Tiles if I am installing my own Solar PV system not for the FiT but just to be green as this 21p rate is not worth the hassle. - I love my tiles!!! But I have to be more energy efficient. Help and advice required please!

Please don't drill through your tiles. There is a great danger that whatever you do to seal around the hole afterwards will not last very long and you'll have the hassle of removing the panels and re-doing the job properly later on.
Do the job right first time - use proper roof hooks and then cut and flash appropriately. Even if you are not trying to claim the FIT, it is worth getting a roofer to at least do this part of the job properly.

agree with stuart, MCS dead against drilling though tiles and using silicone to try and seal the hole. There's bound to be a suitable bracket that will work with your tiles and any good installer should be able to specify it given a few more details of the tiles and underlying roof structure (might need a survey visit to be sure). Not sure why you are going DIY though - solar PV needs proper training to install, and if you use an MCS registered installer you will qualify for the 21p rate at present. Suggest you get a couple of quotes from installers as you may be surprised by how little it costs these days - prices for equipment and installation have tumbled due to competition in the marketplace.

Hi,
Not sure DIY is a good idea! If you shop around and get a few quotes you should be able to get a good price, also the 21p will still gives you a very good ROI if you have it intalled by an MCS accredited company.

I think your crazy for three reasons
1. 21p aint worth it
2. drilling tiles
3. doing DIY
